Here is an opportunity for you to have your favourite photo converted into a cross stitch chart for you to stitch. Now, this may sound easy but I assure you it's not. Some people think all you have to do is scan a photo into a Photo-to-Chart program, press a button and hey presto, a perfect cross stitch chart is produced. Wrong. Yes, you do need to scan a photo into a cross stitch program but that is the easy part. Developing a cross stitch design is akin to an artist setting up an easel, choosing his/her colours and then painstakingly painting a picture. I choose all the DMC colours myself and endeavour to create as realistic an image as possible. This requires a knowledge of colour, tone, contrast, perspective, proportion and value. Value is the amount of light a colour reflects and is essential to create the dark, medium and light tonal balance of an image. In the design of Isolda, our German Shepherd, it was important the chair she is sitting on had the correct perspective. My knowledge of perspective drawing and building materials allowed me to achieve this. You may notice the colour of the chair in the photo is nothing like the colours I chose for the cross stitch design. Browns would have been boring and too close to her coat colours. She would have looked like a brown blob. So, I chose cool blue greys to accentuate her warm tans, browns and creams. Blue and orange are complementary contrasts on the colour wheel and derivations of both colours work well together. Also the cool of the greys compliments the warmth of the browns so there's a lovely contrast of warm and cool. This is why the design is pleasing and well balanced. I showed my design of Isolda to a lady who breeds German Shepherds. She was very impressed with the realism of my work and said the colours I'd chosen were perfect. I charge $49.95 AUD ($27.00 USD) size (20cmX20cm) (8insX8ins) I can quote you for larger sizes, plus postage for this commission service. This includes a colour print out of the design in stitches, stitching information and of course, an easy to read chart. All I need is a clear, well lit photo and perhaps a brief description of the subject. Photos may be sent to me as a JPEG or BITMAP via e-mail or posted to me via snail mail. All photos will be lovingly cared for and returned with your commission work. Once I have completed your design I send a preview via e-mail for you to view. You are under no obligation to purchase my design and it's an opportunity to make adjustments if you feel they are necessary.
