![]() Eastern Spinebill on Mock Lilac The Eastern Spinebill is an attractive and colourful little honeyeater which often visits parks and gardens to feed from the flowers of introduced and native plants. They have an excited twittering whistle and are very tolerant of humans. |
![]() These robins remain in Tasmania throughout the year. They have black throats, backs and heads with white forehead patches. Their breasts are bright scarlet and the male has a pretty twittering song. |
![]() The New Holland Honeyeater is a spectacular and friendly bird. They are a regular visitor to parks and home gardens. In late summer they congregate in small flocks to feed on blossoming trees and shrubs such as the lucerne tree which has a dainty white flower. Farmers often use the branches of lucerne trees as feed for their stock as an added source of potassium and other minerals. |
![]() Spotted Pardalote on 'Anticipation' Camellia The Spotted Pardalote is a very small, short tailed bird which lives in the canopy of eucalypt forests and woodlands. They are brightly coloured and are sometimes called Diamond Birds because of the numerous prominent white spots on their crowns and wings. One of Tasmania's most beautiful birds. |
![]() Superb Blue Fairy Wren on Grevillea. The male wren has a brilliant sky blue crown, cheeks and mantle contrasting with its black throat and breast. These wrens have a cheerful song and are very social and tolerant of humans. They love to hop around on the grass in groups or pairs while feeding. |
![]() Beautiful Firetail on Tasmanian Blackwood These delightful little birds are only found in Tasmania, as are the Tasmanian Blackwood trees. They have a quiet and unobtrusive nature and are aptly named for their outstanding beauty. They live in thick forests and shrub, often near casuarina and tea tree thickets. |
![]() Pink Robin on Pittosporum Delicate, beautiful and rather secretive little birds. They are dependent on rainforests but often visit dry forests in autumn and winter. Some may cross Bass Strait and spend winter on the mainland. |
